Simple Tapping Can Calm You

Those who have anxiety or constant fear can do something in their homes to relieve the stress of it all. It is a simple technique that involves tapping on various parts of your body. The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of acupressure that can be easily learned and practiced without the help of a clinician.

Therapists have incorporated the tapping technique into their patients’ recovery model to alleviate fears and other issues. The technique, originally called Thought Field Therapy, is simply using repetitive pressures on various points on your body to reduce negative feelings. Most therapists say it can work almost immediately.

How It Works

Our bodies have areas called meridian points that act as energy channels and intersections. Think of your body as having a series of river canals where energy travels throughout. Some points connect several of these canals and those are median points. These points connect us with feelings like fear and even physical pain. Tapping works similar to acupuncture but is a simple way to apply the same principals yourself.

Tapping on these points and repeating a positive mantra stops the negative sensations we feel.

Where Are the Pressure Points?

Everyone has the same pressure points, although reactions to tapping on the various points can be different for each person. Pressure points include:

  • The crown of the head
  • Eyebrows
  • Side of the eye
  • Under the eye
  • Under the nose
  • Chin
  • Collar bone
  • Under the arm
  • The outside of the hand

Lighting tapping on these spots for 10 to 15 minutes is all it takes to make your negative sensations to subside. You do need to repeat a positive statement as you do it for it to truly work its best. The statement is something like you deeply and completely love your self despite dealing with this problem and you name the problem.

The ultimate purpose of tapping is to restore the body’s balance. Most say it is best to do it first thing in the morning as a part of your quiet time or meditation. It works because it gives your problems an outlet. By expressing them and tapping, you are empowering yourself to deal with negative emotions or physical sensations.
